Ollas-BEE Jamet®

The Ol-BEE Jamet ® is the only system to provide bees with quality water at will and nearby, regardless of climate, environment and without any risk of drowning.

Principle of operation

  • The Ollas-BEE Jamet ® ceramic is placed on the ground or above ground.
  • It is then filled with water to water the hives placed nearby (from 5 to 50m).
  • The walls, with their specific porosity, allow the water to escape gently.

The base of the ceramic includes a groove that facilitates water collection by the workers specialized in this task

Healthier bees

  • Less stress for collection, with quality water available at will and nearby.
  • Reduction in the mortality rate of bees due to exhaustion and the dangers of water collection, including the risk of drowning
  • exposure bee to chemical pollution from contaminated water (from pesticides, soil treatments, urban wastewater, etc.)

Advantages

  • A ceramic with specific porosity, graininess and design
  • Easy to position and fill
  • Stores and dispenses temperate water
  • Provides water free from pathogenic germs, particularly those from bee excrement (location outside the flight path of the apiary)
  • Avoids regular water changes against the proliferation of mosquitoes
  • Rapid control of water level and possibility of natural inputs of food supplements, trace elements, etc., decided by the beekeeper, according to the species, the environment, the size of the colonies, whether migratory or not…
  • Wide choice from 6 to 35 liters, and made to measure up to 150 L.
  • Does not fear frost or limestone

Depending on the number of hives per colony, we recommend the following Ollas Jamet BEE models and beds:

  • Garden water point for insects without hive at 1 Hive: Ollas Jamet BEE n°4 of 6 Liters
  • From 2 to 4 Hives: Ollas Jamet BEE n°5 of 9 Liters
  • From 5 to 8 Hives: Ollas Jamet BEE n°6 of 12 Liters
  • From 9 to 14 Hives: Ollas Jamet BEE n°7 of 20 Liters
  • From 15 to 20 Hives: Ollas Jamet BEE n°8 of 35 Liters

For optimal use of your Ol-BEE JAMET®, here are our preparation and installation tips:

  1. Melt a little beeswax and apply it to the bottom of the Ollas 3mm to 1 cm thick or apply it to the outer bottom, even if in this case it covers the edge of the channel a little . Once the wax has cooled, fill it with water.
  2. Place the Ol-BEE on the ground or above ground, on a log for example, between 4 and 10 m maximum from the hives. Preferably install it:
    • In an area exposed to the sun or semi shaded, but avoid that it is totally in the shade
    • Sheltered from a windy area
    • Outside the main axis of flight and return of bees
    • For transhumant hives, always follow their Ol-BEE with the same distance and orientation
  3. At the beginning of spring, the seasonal humidity being generally more important, it is necessary to leave a little time to the bees, in charge of the harvest of water, to locate this new source of supply. To speed up this process, first put a teaspoon of honey in the lower channel.
  4. When the colony has acquired these habits on the Ol-BEE, do not move it, even in winter, because the apiary always has a minimum of activity and the Ol-BEE Jamet® are not afraid of frost, even in very high temperatures. cold.

2 years of research and testing from 2018 to 2020

  •  1 year to develop the technical qualities of ceramics (resistance, porosity, autonomy, etc.) in accordance with the needs established by beekeepers
  • 1 year of tests** from April 2019 to March 2020, a particularly dry season marked by numerous and intense heat waves, with a significant water and food deficit.

(**) Tests carried out on different colonies not transhumed and without food supplement with Ollas BEE® compared to colonies WITHOUT drinking troughs or WITH “chicken breeding” type drinking troughs.

After the scorching season of 2019, the Ollas Jamet BEE® facilitates the life of wild and farmed pollinators who maintain the balance of the biocenosis in order to transmit healthy ecosystems to future generations.
